Research shows that children with disabilities and their families face higher disaster exposure, lower preparedness levels, and less recovery support than families of children without disabilities, putting them at higher risk for negative outcomes during and after disasters. Allied health professionals such as occupational therapy practitioners, speech-language pathologists, and physical therapy practitioners have a key role to play in supporting these families in preparing for natural disasters.
